Recap of the 98th National Exchange Club Convention

You didn’t attend this year’s national convention??  Well, never fear…there’s always next year and in the mean time, here’s a taste of what you missed…

Wednesday – arrival day…optional dinner at a local saloon that included dinner, line dancing lessons, cow chip throwing, etc.

Thursday – Session 1 – opening comments from National President and representatives, a motivational speaker (Mike Jones, Master Trainer and Human Behavior Expert).  The luncheon was themed Child Abuse Prevention with another dynamic speaker Judge Peter Sakai Children’s Court bench for Bexar County Civil District.  Session 2 – club awards were given out and amendment changes discussed and voted on.

Friday – Session 3 – candidates for office were given an opportunity to speak, voting for new officers was done.  The luncheon was One Nation Under God and the speaker was Don Piper who authored the book 90 Minutes in Heaven which will soon be released as a movie.  A great presentation about the power of prayer and how he was declared dead at the scene of an accident until a fellow preacher came to him to pray and sing with him, even though he was already dead.  He gave a glimpse of what it is like in heaven.  Many breakout sessions in the afternoon offered education in many different topics from officer training to publicity tips, to Roberts Rules of Order.

Saturday – Session 4 – introduction and speeches by the winners of the ACE and Youth of the Year awards and classes in the afternoon.  Installation banquet that night with entertainment and the BIG awards were presented – Exchangite of the Year and All American Volunteer of the Year as well as District awards (which we won – yeah!)  A new Exchange theme song written by some fellow Exchange members  “You can make a change with Exchange” was taught and sung by all.  (The word of the day was “Don’t give up your day jobs!”)

Recipients of this year’s awards below…see you next year!
